POST RETIREMENT - AFTER THREE YEARS

A lot has changed since I retired in 2022.  My life routines started to slow down in a very relaxing manner.  What I enjoyed most is doing the house chores like cleaning, cooking and the like.  Reciting Quran has been such a satisfying experience since I (with the help of Allah SWT) manage to finish (khatam) the whole Quran once a month.. praise be to Allah.

What I did not realise is that I spend a lot of my time lazing on the bed.. too long that my body can bear.. I did not watch what I eat despite the strict diet I endured and practiced in 2020..

I did my health screening inconsistently.. in fact the last check up before May 2025 was somewhere in December 2023.

During my latest health check up in May 2025, I realised that I have let myself go.  My weight has been about 65 kg which gives me a not-so-pretty BMI of 25.7  (this translates to being overweight).

Liver Function : Protein & Globulin levels are higher than normal range

Renal Function Profile : Low Sodium level, High Potassium level.

GFR reading (CKD-EPI) - within the lower range of stage 2.

Glycated Haemoglobin (HbA1c) : Blood Sugar is very high .. 10.6

Lipid Profile : Cholesterol (LDL) - too high 5.8 (should be less tahn 2.6)  Cholesterol (HDL) - too low (should be more than 1.3)

I suddenly realise that I have to change my routine to somehow get back to my healthy self.

I stopped eating rice & do morning walks in the park nearby. I monitor my blood pressure & blood sugar every day.  I reduce my lazing time.  I start my days as early as 4.30 a.m. and stay quite active even at home.

My recent weight averages at 61 kg giving me a BMI of 24.13 which I have to achieve a better value of maybe 23.  This requires me to shed off another 3 kg.

The result is quite significant and I only have Allah to be grateful to.. alhamdulillah.  May Allah help me to be consistent in this journey of being healthy thus ease me in performing my ibadah.. insyaa Allah.
